MCQ

PRONOTE allows the editing of Multi Choice Questionnaires and proposes them to the students as an aid for the courses and a support for evaluations.

Prepare a MCQ

Create a MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Questions can be entered manually or retrieved from:

9 types of questions are proposed:

  1. For each question, enter:
  1.  New  If you want to penalize wrong answers or give more value to one answer when the question calls for several, tick the option Enter a percentage of points for each answer, and enter for each answer the percentage of points to be awarded (or subtracted) in the columns Positive and Negative.

For example, for a question worth 10 points:

If a student marks the correct answer at 60% and the wrong answer at -10%, he/she receives 5 points. If a student ticks only the wrong answer at -10%, he/she receives no points.

In the case of single-choice questions, choosing an answer with a penalty may result in a negative score on the question. On the other hand, on the whole of the MCQ, the student cannot have a grade below 0.

In order for the bonuses and penalties defined in the questions to be taken into account, tick Award points based on percentages defined for each answer in the execution modalities of the MCQ (see below).

  1. To be able to give the MCQ as a competence evaluation, define for each question one or more Evaluated competencies, By default, a student who answers the question correctly is awarded the level of Proficiency level satisfactory; click on the color dot to choose the level Proficiency level very good (a wrong answer is translated by a Proficiency level unsatisfactory).

Define the execution modalities 

Select the MCQ then on the right, go to the tab Execution modalities and indicate:

Note: Once the students have started answering, it is no longer possible to change the execution modalities.

Simulate the student's vision 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ, right-click and choose Simulate the student's vision. A button Simulate is also present in the editing window of the questions to directly visualize the concerned question.

Modify a MCQ

Modify the questions associated with a MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ and go to the tab Entry of questions.

Duplicate a MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ, right-click and choose Duplicate a MCQ: the MCQ is copied with all the associated questions.

Add a question to a MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ to which you want to add the question, right-click and choose Add questions > to my MCQ.
  3. In the popup window, select the concerned MCQ and then the question to be recovered (you can select several by holding down the key [Ctrl]). 
  4. Click on the button Add.

Delete a MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ, right-click and choose Delete.

Pool the MCQ

Several libraries allow you to share and reuse MCQ:

When a teacher shares a MCQ in a library, it is always a copy of the MCQ that is made available: the original MCQ is not modified. To work with several people on the same MCQ, it is necessary to use the collaborative MCQ and to designate the contributors by name; in this context, the modifications made by a teacher are visible to all.

Jointly develop a MCQ 

All contributors designated by the MCQ creator can create/modify questions and propose the MCQ to their students.

  1. Go to the tab MCQ >  Collaborative MCQ :you will find the MCQ on which your colleagues have given you modification rights.
  2. You can create a MCQ from this display and invite colleagues to edit it by naming them in the column Contributors.

Note: if you have already started to create the MCQ from the My MCQ display (not a Collaborative MCQ), you can copy it: right-click on it and choose Copy in "Collaborative MCQ".

Use the institution's/Nathan's MCQ library 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > Institution's library/Nathan library > .
  2. Click on the subject and level to display the corresponding MCQ. A click on a MCQ displays the questions on the right.

Use Index Education's MCQ library 

All teachers using PRONOTE in their institution can submit and recover MCQ on the Education Index site, rubric PRONOTE  > Downloads > MCQ libraryhttps://www.index-education.com/fr/qcm-liste.php

To make your MCQ available in the Index Education library:

  1. From the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry  select the MCQ, right-click and choose Export the MCQ in a XML format (compatible Moodle). Save the generated file.
  2. Click on the button Sharing of the MCQ: the Index Education Website opens in your browser, under the rubric PRONOTE > Downloads > MCQ library.
  3. Click on the button I share my MCQ: fill in the form, click on the button Browse to attach the *.xml file generated in the first step, and click Send.

To use a MCQ from the Index Education library:

  1. Go to the Index Education Website, rubric PRONOTE > Downloads > MCQ library.
  2. Click on the button I am looking for a MCQ and use the filters and the search field.
  3. Click on the button  of the wanted MCQ and save the file.
  4. From the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry of Client, select one of your MCQ, right-click, choose the command Import the MCQ > from the XML files and indicate the *.xml file recovered from the library.

Exchange MCQ with teachers from other institutions 

You can use the export in a *.xml format to share MCQ outside your institution without using the Index Education library:

  1. Select the MCQ, right-click and choose Export the MCQ in a XML format (compatible Moodle). Save the generated file.
  2. The file is loaded via the command Import the MCQ > in a XML format (available with right-click on any MCQ).

Propose the MCQ to the students

The students answer the MCQ from Students Webspace or the PRONOTE mobile application. There are 4 ways to propose a MCQ to the students (commands available with a right-click after selecting the relevant MCQ in the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry).

Associate the MCQ with a test 

When you associate the MCQ with a test, PRONOTE generates grades from the scale defined for each question. These grades are taken into account in the average (unless you allocate a zero coefficient to the test). You will find them in Grades > Enter the grades > Entry.

  1. Right-click on the MCQ and choose Associate the MCQ with a new test.
  2. In the popup window, select the associated service, the file is loaded with the time limits between which the students will be able to answer the MCQ from their Webspace, as well as the other characteristics of the test (date of the MCQ, period for which the grade must be counted, coefficient and eventually a corrected copy).
  3. Click on the gearwheel to define the execution modalities (you can allow the return to the previous questions, mix them, loosen the correction...).
  4. Click on Create: the MCQ is announced on the Students Webspace homepage in the rubric Next iTests. The link becomes active during the time slot you have defined.

Note: You can also associate an MCQ to a test from the test creation window in the tab Grades > Entry of grades >  Entry.

Associate the MCQ with an evaluation 

When you associate a MCQ with an evaluation, PRONOTE allocates the proficiency levels to the competence defined in advance for every question. You find the evaluation in the tab Competencies > Evaluation >  Entry.

  1. Right-click on the MCQ and choose Associate a MCQ with a new competence evaluation. The command is only available if you have defined the competencies evaluated for each question.
  2. In the popup window, select the associated service, the file is loaded with the time limits between which the students will be able to answer the MCQ from their Webspace, as well as the other characteristics of the test (date of the MCQ, period for which the grade must be counted, coefficient and eventually a corrected copy).
  3. Click on the gearwheel to define the execution modalities (you can allow the return to the previous questions, mix them, loosen the correction...). By default, if a competence is evaluated in several questions, PRONOTE averages the results obtained and assigns a coefficient equal to the number of occurrences. Un-tick the option Only count a single proficiency level for the competencies evaluated on several questions if you want to have as many lines as occurrences.
  4. Click on Validate: the MCQ is announced on the Students Webspace homepage in the rubric Next iTests. The link becomes active during the time slot you have defined.

Note: You can also associate an MCQ to a competencies evaluation from the tab Competencies > Evaluation >  Entry.

Associate the MCQ with the homework notebook 

A MCQ given as a homework assignment is not graded or if it is grade, it is only indicative and does not count in the average.

  1. Right-click on the MCQ and choose Associate the MCQ with a homework notebook.
  2. In the popup window, select the week and then the course for which the MCQ is to be taken and indicate if it is given:
    • as content (for revision): the MCQ will not be graded and students may retake it as many times as they wish.  New  The results of the last practice session are saved and can be consulted in the tab Results;
    • as a personal assignment: students must have taken the MCQ before the date you specify. You can consult their results.
  3. The student accesses the MCQ from the homepage of his/her Webspace as well as from the tab Homework notebook.

 New  Customize the MCQ for students with an accompaniment project 

 Prerequisite  You have already given the MCQ to the class.

  1. Select the MCQ given to the class (the white line, not the red one).
  2. In the tab Execution modalities, click on the button Customization for X students.
  3. In the popup window, provide extra time and/or fewer questions for the students involved.

Consult the results

Consult the results and allow a catch-up for the MCQ 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Select a MCQ on the left and click on tab Results on the right.
  3. To see the details of the answers, select a student, right-click and choose View the student's copy.
  4. To allow some students to retake the MCQ, select them, right-click and choose Allow the selected students to retake the test/evaluation or for the MCQ assigned in the homework notebook Renew the assignment for the selected students.

Modify the results manually 

 New  Double-click in a column to manually change the number of points obtained: it is then displayed with an asterisk, and the grade of the test is recalculated.

You can also modify the overall result manually from the displays Grades > Entry (or) Competencies > Evaluation if the MCQ has been evaluated by competencies).

Classify the MCQ

 New  Classify your MCQ by category 

  1. Go to the tab MCQ > My MCQ >  Entry.
  2. Double-click in the column Categories.
  3. In the popup window, select one or several categories, creating them on the fly if necessary (you can allocate a color and an abbreviation for them) then validate.
  4. To find all the MCQ in a category, click on that category in the left panel.

Recover his/her MCQ from one year to another 

  1. From the base that contain the MCQ, launch the command Imports/Exports > PRONOTE > Safeguard my MCQ, progressions and appraisals in a file: PRONOTE generates a file NomDuProfesseur_AnneeScolaire_RessourcesPedagogiques.zip.
  2. From the base in which you want to recover the MCQ, launch the command Imports/Exports > PRONOTE > Recover my MCQ, progressions and appraisals from a safeguard, designate the *.zip file and tick MCQ.
